OPEN DEBATE ON THE FUTURE OF THE FORUM. FROM OPEN SPACE TO SPACE FOR ACTION
16:00h (PT)
Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82757077983

On the 20th anniversary of the World Social Forum, the time has come to look at our achievements, our present and, most of all, our future. Discussions have been going on for many years now but never have come to a conclusion. That is why some members of the IC took the initiative to create a new group 'Towards a New World Social Forum' to discuss concrete proposals for governance and action. Our first and most important proposal is to have an open debate on these proposals which we hope to finalize for the World Social Forum in Mexico in 2022.

Moderator: Francine Mestrum

Introductions by: Boaventura de Sousa Santos, Mireille Fanon Mendès France, Candido Grzybowsky, Thomas Ponniah - Followed by an open debate with the audience and contributions by Roberto Savio, Oscar Gonzalez, Leo Gabriel, Emir Sadr, Riccardo Petrella, Aleksandr Buzgalin, Antonio Martins, Carlos Tiburcio

Note-taking: Norma Fernandez

January 28 – Thursday
World Social Forum 2021 on Power and Democracy: Despair and Hope
12PM to 2:30 PM GMT

In this session we propose to promote an open dialogue where we can critically address the issue of power and democracy from two different perspectives:
1] Representative democracy within the framework of the Nation-State, its crisis of legitimacy and the co-optation by the pro-capitalist perspectives and increasing fascist tendencies;
[2] The practices of radical democracy or direct democracy taking place in social movements, grassroots organizations and community processes, along with the emerging frameworks of power for radical transformations. We intend to bring out the tensions and complementarities between local, national and global dimensions.

January 30 – Saturday
ASSEMBLY OF GLOBAL PROCESSES: HOW DO WE RESIST FACISM, AND PROMOTE RADICAL DEMOCRACY?
06:00h UTC
Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88017718036

We will host a joint assembly of the 7 processes, and any others who may want to join, at 6 am UTC/GMT and repeated 2 pm UTC/GMT.

Agenda for the Assembly sessions:
1. Each global process will be requested to share their key priorities, and approach to systemic transformation (resistance, alternatives, networking, assembly, etc), for a few minutes each. This will also be opened up for inputs from other global/regional  networks that are present.
2. Suggestions and discussion on a global plan of collective action for 2021, leading up to the 2022 WSF but also linking to other relevant processes through the year.
