ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE AND WE CAN BUILD IT!

INVITATION TO ONLINE DIALOGUE

September 12, 2020

To the international alter-globalist social movements, organizations and networks

(To those who clearly stand against neoliberal capitalism, patriarchy, racism and all forms of domination and against the civilizational model that oppresses nature)

Another world emerges from the coronavirus pandemic. What world is that? We know that the situation may get worse and we are in a global emergency situation, facing a predatory and unequal world. We want it to change for the better. We know that we can change this world it if we work together on global ideas and actions.

Unfortunately, many social movements that are still alive around the world are globally disarticulated. Several initiatives are now trying already to channel the discontent and want to build an internationalist and transversal movement capable of overcoming neoliberal capitalism. We need to find opportunities to re-articulate our resistances and alternatives, since that is the greatest and most important challenge.

That is why the International Council of the World Social Forum proposed in January 2020 in Porto Alegre to initiate a process of dialogues with movements, organizations and social networks around the planet. As part of that process, we facilitated a first extended virtual meeting on June 27. Here you can see a synthesis of what was shared:https://bit.ly/3kmOPzI

However, we think we now need a smaller meeting to facilitate a dialogue with international movements, organizations and networks in order to jointly reflect on the world that will emerge from the current crises and from our potential to build convergences and strategies to transform it. We also want to examine possible new cooperations that may contribute to articulate struggles and initiatives and build a global political subject.

The World Social Forum will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2021. In this context, its International Council also wishes to put to your consideration the possibility of holding a new planetary event in Mexico City, resulting from a process to expand the voice and articulations of the different movements that are building alternatives for the world we are living in. Of course we will have to see if the conditions allow it and if together we can agree on the usefulness and viability for social movements around the world.

Against this background, we invite you to participate in this online Dialogue that will take place next September 12, 2020, at 8 am in Mexico, through the platform (Zoom)

Never before has the need for greater cooperation and convergence been more evident than today, faced as we are with an emerging right-wing authoritarianism, a climate collapse, and growing inequalities.

We would like to strengthen the union of ideas and actions to change the world. The reality we are facing now requires a commitment from everyone.

We hope we can count on your participation.

Dear Colleagues:

Members of the Organizing / Facilitating Collectives of World Thematic , Regional, National, local  Social Forum processes.

The International Council (CI) of the World Social Forum (WSF) is pleased to invite you to a virtual meeting to develop a dialogue about the trajectory of your Forum processes, their forms of organization, decision, communication and political advocacy, their past political agendas and current, in addition to its upcoming events and concerted actions.

The intention of this dialogue is an effort of listening, learning and socialization among groups. We invite you to share the multidimensional effort that was generated from the spirit and process of the World Social Forum. Your experience is very important to relaunch the WSF as a horizontal space, of convergence and projection of political agendas and global actions towards another Possible, Urgent and Necessary World.

Some Organizing Collectives of Social Forums processes are already members of the International Council of the WSF and the participation of other active Forum process facilitating collectives  is part of the desire to expand and qualify the IC.

The Meeting will be virtual and will last between 3 and 4 hours, on September 19, 2020, the start time will be defined when we receive your confirmation of participation and thus adjust schedules compatible with the time zones of the participants.

We expect the participation of at least two (2) participants for each invited Forum process organizing collective. All those who wish to accompany the Meeting are welcome, but we ask that you please check the number of interested participants, to see if we can accommodate them, since this will depend on the capacity of the electronic platform to be used.

To make the meeting more dynamic, we ask you to send a document of up to 4 pages with: the identification and contacts of some of the participants of the Organization / Facilitation Collective, a summary of their trajectory, agendas, struggles, methods of action, future actions and events. As well as the ways you identify for, from your Thematic or Regional / National / Local Forums, to support and strengthen the general processes of the WSF. It is not mandatory to prepare this text before the meeting on the 19th, but if we would like to insist that, even after the event, we could count on it to share it among those interested.

At the time of the Meeting, since there are around twenty Forum process facilitating collectives invited so far, we will allocate between 5 and 8 minutes for an initial oral presentation of each Forum process, organizing sequences by blocks of topics or regions closer to each other, following a period of questions and debates.

The organizers of the Meeting will try to facilitate the translation to at least be able to operate the meeting in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

For confirmation of the participants in the Meeting and additional information, we ask you to contact: Hamouda Soubhi: hsoubhi x alternatives.ca and Rosa Zúñiga: rosyz_secretariageneral x ceaal.org

INVITATION

SECOND EXTENDED MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL

ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE AND WE CAN BUILD IT!

September 26 and 27, 2020 (Saturday and Sunday)

To international alter-global movements, organizations and networks

(To those who clearly stand against neoliberal capitalism, patriarchy, racism and all forms of domination and against the civilizational model that oppresses nature)

The second Extended Meeting of the International Council  of the World Social Forum (IC-WSF) is the culmination of an intense phase of international meetings focused on listening and dialogue about the serious challenges of the  world situation, as well as the importance of global political articulations. and the definition of actions to confront them.

The first Expanded Meeting of the IC was held on June 27 of this year, highlighted a great concern about the worsening of inequalities; structural violence against women, youth and children; racism, and the socio-environmental crisis that puts life on the planet at risk. The pandemic revealed the great injustices of the current civilizational model, as well as the great digital divide that exists.

The main strategies proposed by participants in this meeting  for the World Social Forum are that it be a space where to develop international solidarity with the various oppressed peoples; to put the debate around racism at the center;  to build planetary action agendas from the peoples and territories; to generate spaces for exchange and build collective knowledge and let the people speak; to dispute the digital space. The synthetic report of this first extended meeting can be found at this link: https://bit.ly/3kmOPzI

This 26 septembre dialogue is preceded by a meeting with Global Networks from around the world, held on September 12, and a meeting of facilitating collectives of Thematic, Regional and National social forums processes held on September 19.

Another world emerges from the new coronavirus pandemic. What world is this?. We know that the situation may get worse and we are in a period of global emergency, facing an increasingly predatory and unequal world. We face this reality, fighting for it to change for the better. We know that we can change it if we work together with global ideas and actions.

There are several initiatives that seek to channel this discontent towards an internationalist and transversal movement capable of overcoming neoliberal capitalism. Unfortunately, in the face of even more dramatic scenarios than before, several social movements that are active around the world, are disarticulated on a global scale. Finding the opportunity again to re-articulate our resistance and alternatives is the greatest and most important challenge.

That is why the IC of the World Social Forum proposed in January 2020 in Porto Alegre, to start this process of listening and dialogue with movements, organizations and social networks around the planet.

In this sense, the International Council, within the framework of the twentieth anniversary of the World Social Forum, is also debating the possibility of holding the next planetary WSF event in Mexico City in 2021 after an international preparatory process.

It is in this context that we invite your organization, a social movement International or Global Network. to participate in the Second Extended Meeting of the International Council of the WSF, which will take place on September 26 and 27, at 7:00 am in Mexico, through the platform (Zoom).

Never before has greater cooperation and the identification of convergences at a global level been necessary, considering that we are facing an emerging right-wing authoritarianism, climate collapse and growing inequalities.

We need to strengthen the union of ideas and actions to change the world. The grave reality we face demands this commitment from all men and women.
