ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE AND WE CAN BUILD IT!

INVITATION TO ONLINE DIALOGUE

September 12, 2020

To the international alter-globalist social movements, organizations and networks

(To those who clearly stand against neoliberal capitalism, patriarchy, racism and all forms of domination and against the civilizational model that oppresses nature)

Another world emerges from the coronavirus pandemic. What world is that? We know that the situation may get worse and we are in a global emergency situation, facing a predatory and unequal world. We want it to change for the better. We know that we can change this world it if we work together on global ideas and actions.

Unfortunately, many social movements that are still alive around the world are globally disarticulated. Several initiatives are now trying already to channel the discontent and want to build an internationalist and transversal movement capable of overcoming neoliberal capitalism. We need to find opportunities to re-articulate our resistances and alternatives, since that is the greatest and most important challenge.

That is why the International Council of the World Social Forum proposed in January 2020 in Porto Alegre to initiate a process of dialogues with movements, organizations and social networks around the planet. As part of that process, we facilitated a first extended virtual meeting on June 27. Here you can see a synthesis of what was shared:https://bit.ly/3kmOPzI

However, we think we now need a smaller meeting to facilitate a dialogue with international movements, organizations and networks in order to jointly reflect on the world that will emerge from the current crises and from our potential to build convergences and strategies to transform it. We also want to examine possible new cooperations that may contribute to articulate struggles and initiatives and build a global political subject.

The World Social Forum will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2021. In this context, its International Council also wishes to put to your consideration the possibility of holding a new planetary event in Mexico City, resulting from a process to expand the voice and articulations of the different movements that are building alternatives for the world we are living in. Of course we will have to see if the conditions allow it and if together we can agree on the usefulness and viability for social movements around the world.

Against this background, we invite you to participate in this online Dialogue that will take place next September 12, 2020, at 8 am in Mexico, through the platform (Zoom)

Never before has the need for greater cooperation and convergence been more evident than today, faced as we are with an emerging right-wing authoritarianism, a climate collapse, and growing inequalities.

We would like to strengthen the union of ideas and actions to change the world. The reality we are facing now requires a commitment from everyone.

We hope we can count on your participation.

Members of the WSF International Council meeting in Porto Alegre in January 2020, and virtually on May 30, June 6, August 8 and 9 of the same year.
